More and more these days, folks are learning how to take a little break in the middle of their business trip.
How I wish I’d learned this in the years I traveled all over Florida, before we opened our bed and breakfast! The dozens of times I went to Miami, stayed in a hotel on the company’s dime, but never took the time to add a personal day to just go visit a beach, or a museum, or see a show. I could’ve met The Mouse a gazillion times in Orlando.
And so on, and so forth…
Now as an innkeeper, I see our regular business guests adding a few days to their trip. I’m always excited to provide suggestions on where to go in the Tallahassee/Panhandle area. I’m even more delighted to see them appear for breakfast, not in business smarts, but in shorts and a T-shirt. The clothes maketh the man they say – and the casual clothes usually affect the face! They’ve gone from focused and busy, to relaxed, smiley and ready to vacay, baby!
The Bleisure trip – it’s mixture of business and leisure.
Methinks that a pandemic, the great resignation, national election drama, inflation, war in Ukraine (and so on, and so forth) have caused many of us to analyze our priorities a bit. And not a moment to soon.
It’s well know that the average American gets a meager 2 weeks a year in paid vacation time, and usually fails to take it.
Europeans on the other hand get twice that amount and take every bit of it. Wish I’d leaned on my European culture a bit more when I started paying taxes in the USA!
But it’s never too old to learn a new thing and folks are learning quickly, if the vacay clothes in our breakfast room are anything to go by.
