Says Nicole:
“I had the most magical stay here. My husband and I stayed here the night of our wedding. The roses they had in our room were beautiful and we have dried and saved them. They left a personalized welcome note for us and some delicious cookies. We slept well and enjoyed our breakfast the next day. The other people staying there were so nice! We had our own breakfast table and I kid you not they had the best coffee we have ever had. It was such a wonderful, special stay we will never forget. The inside and outside yard area are beautiful and the owner was very nice. We can’t wait to go back!”
We absolutely love reading comments like this about our business! We strive to make each and every guest feel appreciated, special and not just a number.
Over the last 20 years, we’ve had wedding parties, sometimes the bride and groom, sometimes the in-laws, stay with us. Many times, a wedding party will come back and celebrate their first few wedding anniversaries here. They usually want to stay in the same room too.
Sadly, we’ve had long term guests from out of state who are sitting with a loved one at hospice, until that loved one passes away.
We’ve met a plethora of business travelers who are tired of the chain hotels and want a warm, welcoming place to come “home” to at the end of their long work day. Those “regulars” are the ones who pass on the good news about our Little English Guesthouse to their colleagues, who are also tired of those noisy, sterile hotels.
Oodles of FSU or FAMU parents visiting their university child and catching a football, or baseball game while they’re in town, stay with us. For many of those parents they “find” us in the FSU handbook when their child is coming for Freshman orientation, and stay with us for the next 4-5 years their child is in Tallahassee.
Since the Covid pandemic, lots of folks have stayed with us and sit in our lovely conservatory, on their computers – “at work” while enjoying not being in their office. Working remotely has become more popular since 2020 and we’re delighted to provide a pretty spot for remote workers to get some peace and quiet while they work.
Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving – when folks are visiting friends and family in Tallahassee, they choose to spend their nights at the Little English Guesthouse and give their loved ones a little separation from entertaining. By the time the holiday is over, everybody still loves each other because of that daily separation time!
During the summer particularly, we’re pleased to find French, German and Australians folks arrive on our doorstep as they spend their summer weeks touring the USA.They usually come armed with lots of questions and curiosities about the Americans they encounter on their travels. It’s always fun to take time to answer their questions over breakfast. One of the most common questions is “why are the apples in the grocery store so shiny?” They are usually not pleased to hear the answer (it involves silicone/wax!). I’m always happy to give them the benefit of my 36 years of life experience of living in the USA.
I’m always surprised when guests are surprised I’ve been living here for that many years. I guess I sound like I arrived on American soil last month. Uncle Sam has been making me pay taxes for that many years, despite the fact that I haven’t been able to adopt a Southern accent.
Honestly, we’ve lost count of the guests who have come and gone in the last 20 years. One thing we haven’t lost is our excitement to meet a new guest, even after all these years. We love what we do and we’re glad it shows!
Whether it’s a special celebration, a wedding night, a business trip or just a staycation to get away from home but stay close to home and not waste precious hours traveling. Make sure to put us in your BookMarks or favorite folder – as Nicole said, you’ll have the most magical stay!
