Happy New Year to you and yours! I’m glad that 2021 is in the rear view mirror, are you? For many the year of the pandemic, 2020, was quite dreadful, only to find 2021 be even worse, for a myriad of reasons.
It’s made many of us realize that we should count our blessings Every. Single. Day! Because whatever ails you today, could be worse tomorrow. Despite whatever ails you, we still have much for which to be thankful. Just take a look at the evening news tonight and I’m certain you’ll agree.
Thom and I are being intentional this year. Intentional about spending more time together. Intentional about making a plan to do so, and not just on “date night”. Intentional about being grateful, being generous, being kind and patient and compassionate.
This week we got rather poor service from a restaurant server (who was obviously rushed off her feet). We smiled (despite being annoyed), gave her a generous tip and thanked her for working so hard though obviously understaffed. Glad we were being intentional, otherwise that would sound pious.
In 2021, our lovely dog, Freddy, died at the ripe old age of 14. And we buried a friend, at the young age of 28. And a lifelong friend, taken by brain cancer at 65. And a family member, whose funeral I was desperate to attend, but found myself unable.
I’m sure you’ve had losses too. Deaths, perhaps. Maybe a job loss, or a cancellation of a well-planned trip. Maybe you were due for necessary elective surgery that was cancelled. Or have a relationship broken by the politics and division of the last couple years. Or just plain broken for who knows why. And so on and so forth…
2022 is a new year, my friend!
Live this year with intentionality.
After 30 days it will become a habit, and you may even find you live the following year that way too.
So I challenge you. Not to make a New Year’s resolution (bit late now, anyway), but to make a life-changing decision.
Live with intentionality.
Decide what is important, truly important.
Decide WHO is important – and invest your resources (time being the most important resource) appropriately.
It’s never too late to start – but this week might be a life changing time to start.
So do it!
And keep a record/diary/journal of 2022 – so that when 2023 rolls around, you’ll have hard evidence of what you were able to accomplish when you set your mind to being intentional.
Because you are worth it – and you have what it takes to reprioritize your life goals.
Happy New Year!
It is 2022 – the year of Intentionality.
