Take yourself down to Cascades Park, downtown Tallahassee this weekend for a little literary appreciation, why don’t you?
Word of South: It’s a festival of literature and music, a unique blend of writers and musicians and an exploration of the relationship between the two disciplines.
The first festival was in 2015. It showcases authors who write about music, musicians who also are authors, authors and musicians trading places, and everything in between.
They’re particularly proud of their “mu-aushups”: authors and musicians appearing together (some of whom have never met). There will also feature cookbook authors, kids programming and musical performances of every genre. There’s gospel and HipHop, pop and bluegrass, jazz and country, Americana and R&B.
Bring the whole family, and come see what’s down South!
The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra will be there. My personal favorite (yes, I’m a groupie) is Avis Berry. She’ll be performing with Revival and also as part of the “Tribute to the Women in Jazz” on Sunday.

If you don’t live in Tallahassee, you’ll need a fabulous place to stay and that, of course, would be the Little English Guesthouse.
