Who knew? Not I.
Today, January 25th, is National Florida Day where we celebrate all things Florida.
I’m not sure what that would be. But I can think of several things for which I’m grateful. Living in Florida brings hurricanes, tornadoes, 100% humidity, mosquitos, snakes, alligators and lots of other things this city girl took a while to get used to. I’m not grateful for them.
I’m grateful for air conditioning. Oh my, am I grateful! I’m grateful for 3 distinct seasons, (even though it’s freezing these nights), because once the mercury heads north, the air conditioning stays on for months at a time.
I’m grateful for amazing sunsets, often right opposite the Little English Guesthouse, and sunrises too. I’m grateful that one doesn’t have to go very far at all to reach open water where the sunsets are even more spectacular.
I’m grateful that rocket launches are still a major event and celebrated all over Florida, not just in central Florida, closer to Cape Canaveral.
I’m grateful that housing is more affordable than in London (or New York City!).
That’s just for starters. There are many that could point out the negatives. Crime is on the rise, food is cheaper and better quality in other countries. Health care costs…well, don’t even get me started.
Today is National Florida Day – and I’m grateful to be living here.
Tell us what you love about Florida….
