You may not know this, but if you book a hotel or B&B accommodation via an online travel agent, like Booking or Hotels dot com, Expedia etc, they charge the lodging establishment a hefty commission.
In these difficult times for local (non-franchise) legal B&B’s and Guesthouses, it can make a world of difference if you book direct with the business wherever possible. It costs you no more (and usually saves you money as we give our best rates to direct bookers!). It can make a world of difference to a family run business that has seen really hard times over these past few pandemic months.
