Do you need this sign for your office? living room? church?

Saw this sign in a local antique store and had to laugh out loud! So many times, we look at photos on various social media sites and have to scratch our heads and wonder, “is anything private any more?” or “why would they think anyone is interested in that?”.

And yet, we still check our social media sites regularly to see who has posted what, or get into an entire conversation that folks on the other side of the entire planet can read – if they’re interested – and apparently they are!

I heard on the radio yesterday that the good folks at Facebook, after much research, said – out loud and public – that too much time on social media can have a deleterious effect. That made me laugh out loud too! (You can see I spend much time laughing out loud and wondering if anyone is taking a photo of me acting like a crazy person having a conversation with herself, so that they can anonymously post it on their favorite social media site).

Apparently, too much checking of social media can make one feel lonely and depressed. I guess because everyone in the virtual world is apparently having so much more fun than you. And all those other people, they have more friends than you too – all 4,500 of them.

Best friends, each and every one of them.

Yup.

Now obviously, there are good and bad in most things. I’m thankful that the internet has brought new, modern, FREE ways to communicate with people around the globe. I’m not that old and it was only a decade (or two!) ago that calling England involved sitting with a timer because it cost almost $3 a MINUTE to talk.

Maybe that’s when (and why) I learnt to talk fast. Now that we can talk for free, I can perfect my slow Southern drawl.

And sharing photos, videos, information about me that can reach all my loved ones with just one click is so much easier than the old way.

But the rest of it – the constant barrage of somewhat useless information, or photos that shouldn’t be for public consumption even if they’re not considered “private” – and don’t even get me started on the hateful political disagreements that are published. Those things, those things you can keep.

So, if you need this sign as a warning, for your office, your living room, your church or your local pub, let me know, I’ll tell you where the store is…..
